Here, blocks of glass from Kitengela Hot Glass get incorporated into an aspect of architecture. Perhaps a stairwell contains a floor light, or a bathroom window embraces Dalle de Verre, or a sink is a mosaic of tile and glass.
“We transformed a verandah with clear panels (floor lights) that had little red sections with an LED (light-emitting diode) embedded in each block,” Anselm recalls. “It had quite a surprising effect which was great in and of itself, because each block would glimmer, giving the impression that the verandah was lit from underneath.”
In Kilindi, a lighting system is embedded in 400 blocks surrounding a “T”-shaped pool so that its edges give off light. In the same hotel in Zanzibar, a series of dome-shaped accommodations with 48 glass blocks, half of which contain LEDs, create a stunning effect at night as rings of light seem to float in the air.
